Oban and Speyside

(5 nights / 6 days)

A superb six-day, five-night whisky tour with beautiful scenery and a stay in a castle hotel.

  • Day

    1

    Starting in Edinburgh or Glasgow, we head northwest via the Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond where you have your first Scottish dram. Then on to Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland.

    Take a late tour of Oban Distillery (built in 1794 before the town!). Stay 2 nights in a hotel overlooking the bay.

    2

    A full day trip by ferry (a 45 min sail) to the lovely island of Mull and the picture postcard town of Tobermory. Take a tour of this small harbour town distillery, enjoy a local pub lunch before visiting Duart Castle, the home of the Clan MacLean Clan Chief. Return to Oban around 6pm.

    3

    Head north via the brooding Glencoe, infamous for the mass killing of 38 members of the Clan MacDonald by the Clan Cambell in 1692.

    Perhaps drop into Ben Nevis Distillery before staying at Glengarry Castle Hotel on the banks of Loch Oich, the heart of the Great Glen in the Highlands of Scotland.

    4

    Heading north via Fort Augustus, then along the east side of Loch Ness you head to Speyside, the heart of whisky country for 2 nights.

    Distillery options include Benromach, Glen Moray and Benriach. Overnight in a traditional Victorian Hotel, with great food and a good whisky and gin bar.

    A full day in Speyside. Many distillery options for tours, warehouse tastings or drops in including Glenlivet, Cardhu, Glenallachie, Macallan, Aberlour (formal tasting only), Balvenie, Glenfiddich, Speyburn and Glen Grant.

    We also take you to The Speyside Cooperage where they make and repair casks. For those non drinkers maybe visit Johnstons Woolen Mill, it’s a very interesting watch behind the scenes. We’ve also got plenty of castles in the area.

  • Day

    6

    For your final day it’s the drive south back to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Then before the final leg of the journey to your city hotel. Alternatively return south over the Cairngorms with distillery options Royal Lochnagar and maybe visit Balmoral or Glamis Castles, both very special to the Royal Family. It is possible to add one final tasting at Tullibardine Distillery to sample their core range. We drop you at your city hotel.

    ALTERNATIVELY Perhaps drop into Dalwhinnie to pair chocolates with drams, then stop for lunch at the pretty Victorian town of Pitlochry. Blair Athol Distillery has an bar from an old mash tun, sample their drams or we can arrange a whisky tasting at Robertsons whisky shop. There’s also the Heather Gems Factory, where they dry heather and make it into colourful jewellery and gifts.
